Bùi Chát studied and earned a Bachelor of Literature, followed by a Bachelor of Law, yet he has never attended any art school or course.
Before becoming a professional painter, Bùi Chát was a poet and a key member of Mở Miệng (Open Mouth) – the most prominent group in contemporary Vietnamese poetry. He has published seven collections of poems, some of which have been translated and introduced in various languages. Bùi Chát is also regarded as a highly respected figure in the publishing industry.
After several interruptions in his artistic journey, Bùi Chát fully dedicated himself to painting in 2019. He is currently pioneering his own style, which he calls “Situational Painting.”
“Mét Mét Ba” is Bùi Chát’s eighth exhibition. This collection features 30 oil paintings, each sized 100x130cm, created in 2024 after the conclusion of his exhibition “Invisible Presences.”
According to Bùi Chát, there have been too many voices, too many metaphors, too many messages conveyed through various exhibitions. Therefore, in preparing for this exhibition, he decided not to incorporate any specific voice, metaphor, or message into the project. For Bùi Chát, this exhibition is a pause—a way to unwind and completely relax in his life and artistic path.
The public is invited to come and rest, relax, or to create their own stories and messages through the collection…
Speaking about “Mét Mét Ba,” Bùi Chát added, “Perhaps the silence of art can help alleviate the noise pollution within each of our minds!”
