Artist’s Statement
I was born in a land of blazing sun, winds, and white sands. My love for painting began in childhood—so deep that whenever the rain stopped, countless “paintings” would appear on the sand in the garden around my home. Those childhood memories have lingered with me, even as I left my hometown of Cam Ranh, Khánh Hòa to build a life in Ho Chi Minh City, where fate gave me the chance to truly live with my passion.
I studied painting while working at an art gallery in Phú Nhuận District. 2010 marked the first year when my creative inspiration truly blossomed. It was also the year I began searching for my own artistic language. I wanted to create a personal signature—so that my works could be recognized at a single glance.
Guided by my love for nature and my homeland, I began experimenting with materials to create embossed textures of tree trunks, fruits, and objects tied to childhood memories. These relief-like surfaces could simultaneously evoke the roughness of bark and stone, while also rendering the soft elegance of lotus buds or flower vases.
This exhibition marks my first solo show, a milestone in my eighteen-year journey with the brush—through all its trials and transformations. Through all those years, the allure of color has never diminished for me. It remains as powerful and compelling as ever.
