As part of the series of events celebrating Vietnam Heritage Day (November 23, 2024), Maii Art Space is pleased to support and host an art exhibition of sketch paintings titled “Saigon in Me”
The images of Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City, past and present, old and new, large and small, distant and near, are presented through the authors’ emotionally charged perspectives. Most of the participants in this exhibition are architects who have a professional connection and a deep love for Saigon, such as: Architect Bùi Hoàng Bảo, Architect Hoàng Dũng, Architect Bùi Văn Hoàn (Noah Bùi), Architect Trần Xuân Hồng, Architect Hoàng Hải Linh, Architect Lâm Đức Trọng (Bờm), among others. In recent years, this group of sketching architects in Saigon has regularly contributed to the “Heritage Corner” column in the Sunday edition of Thanh Niên newspaper, along with sketch artists from across the country, sparking a lively sketching movement among young people.
The cultural heritage of Vietnam, seen through the lens of each artist, is once again explored and transformed into unique artworks. In some way, cultural heritage seems to be revived in this 4.0 technology era. It is not merely a collection of dry historical documents but is turned into art, allowing young people to “stroll through the land of heritage,” explore on their own, and experience lessons in Vietnamese history and culture. With over 50 sketches and paintings across various mediums, showcasing brushstrokes that celebrate the hidden beauty in each street corner, the people, and the vibrant and colorful life of Saigon. Each artwork tells a story, presenting a unique perspective of Saigon that allows viewers to feel immersed in the bustling yet profoundly lyrical and romantic atmosphere of this Southern city.
During the exhibition, there will be a small talk titled: “So that Saigon Remains in Me” (to be held at 9:00 AM on Sunday, October 13, 2024), featuring speakers such as: Dr. Nguyễn Thị Hậu – archaeologist and writer, Architect Bùi Hoàng Bảo, and writer Trần Nhã Thụy (acting as the moderator).
The exhibition will officially open on October 10, 2024, at Maii Art Space (72/7 Trần Quốc Toản, Võ Thị Sáu Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) and will continue until October 17, 2024.
